Koubra Haggar, Program Manager at HCCI discusses the rise of hate crimes, with no indication of a downward trend.  She touches on the underfunding social services and affordable housing backlog. Asking those running for office to commit to how they tackle the rise of hate in Hamilton. 


Urban Tree Canopy

Adeola Egbeyemi, Project Assistant at Environment Hamilton

asks a question of candidates about investment in Green Infrastructure and the Urban Tree Canopy.


Extreme Heat

Stewart Klazinga of Acorn Hamilton discusses the need for measures the City of Hamilton should take to tackle extreme heat.

Trevor from Hamilton Acorn Downtown Chapter shares a personal story about renoviction/demoviction and askes those running for office what steps they would take to protect tenants in existing market affordable rentals.


Tiny Cabin Community

Tom Cooper, Executive Director of the Hamilton Roundtable for Poverty Reduction talks about the housing crisis and takes us on a tour of a tiny cabin asking candidates if they would support this interim step in addressing the housing and homelessness crisis. 


Breaking Barriers to City Services

Clare Freeman, Executive Director of the

Hamilton Community Legal Clinic introduces the Community Legal Clinic and the programs the clinic undertakes. She calls out the digital the challenges of the digital divide and access to front facing City and Social Services and asks candidates to speak to how they have worked with marginalized groups.


Women and Work

Shannon Cummings, Manager of Women’s Enterprise Centre at YWCA Hamilton talks about the impacts of the pandemic on Women and gender diverse folks and asks how candidates would support these impacted residents.


Precarious Housing

Michele Markowski, Supervisor of Carole Anne's Place talks about the housing crisis, the impacts on women and gender diverse people, and the major impacts that crisis has on the frontline services they provide, asking candidates how they will make sure those most affected by the housing and homelessness crisis are supported?


Childcare

Ala Mohamed, Manager of Children's Services at YWCA Hamilton talks about the need for high quality childcare and daycare across the city.  Asks candidates what they will do to make sure the federal 10$ program is rolled out in Hamilton, if they will support expanding not for profit childcare spaces, and ensure every child in Hamilton has access to high quality affordable childcare. 


Housing Affordability and employment

Paul Szachlewicz, Policy & Government Relations Advisor from the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce talks about the challenges facing employers and chamber members in attracting and retaining talent due to the high cost of market housing.  He would like to know what those running for office will do to address the high cost of housing and generate more market affordability.


Community Benefits and LRT

Eshan Merali, Community Engagement Coordinator for the Hamilton Community Benefits Network talks a little about the network and community benefits and asks candidates if they are willing to work with HCBN, the Community, Metrolinx and the City to insure hard target for diversity employment from the project and access to Metrolinx owned surplus land for use for City Housing Hamilton affordable housing.
